the couch not taken

I am always the cat dragging shit from the street wonderful things off of the sidewalk and putting them in my home. This is generally aggravating for those around me.

Instead of taking so many rough diamonds, and letting time tell whether they get disinfected and sanded and repainted, this little treasure chest is home to the ones that got away, and a few that have made the cut.

Send me pictures of your street finds -- including pieces in your home-- with a location attached and they'll be immortalized.

Straight from the decade when your secretary would get up and un-begrudgingly light your cigarette for you.  Also: goes well with Pepto Bismol, any Hostess Cake, and a Parliament Light.  A little soggy after the storm, but you know that means the chrome is shining bright.

Are strollers furniture?Toddlers sit in them.  Parents stash cookies and scarves and lipstick and issues of GQ.  So there’s the case for the pantry / closet / wardrobe on wheels.
On the other hand, you’d usually get scolded for evacuating yoursold on your office chair.  Strollers are decidedly somewhere in the middle.
At any rate: if you’re looking for a schmancy one, find yourself at 2pm on 74th street and Columbus Ave, and take yer pick o the litter.

This poor guy can’t seem to keep off the block.  For weeks now, he’s been popping up all over Norman Ave.  Sometimes he’ll be looking pretty decent, with a nice sheen to the velveteen coat.  Then you’ll catch him with a split of Wild Turkey and it’s suddenly head over heels.  Look now, you’ve gone and lost your cushion.

Inspired by early Bulova wristwear, the font “Avanti,” and thin cigarettes (also called “ladies’ cigarettes”), this was the last piece of a matching set once owned by a Countess from Valencia.  This countess— in love with the sweet citrus from her namesake region— was known to have both red-green colorblindness and chronic hay fever, and would regularly bite into freshly peeled lemons and scowl.

Having a smoke break?  Waiting for biryani?  Shaking out the dandruff?  What’s this styling mid-century lounger up to, just chilling on the industrial end of Norman Ave?

You’re walking around town, so so sad.  You eat an ice cream cone.  You change your voicemail.  You skip for one block.  Nothing’s working.  To make matters worse, the weather is nice and there’s no Lady Gaga coming out of any car windows.
And suddenly you realize: what you really need is hug.  Ta-da!
